Kodak Continues to Innovate at CES

I’m an avid photographer and am never without a camera wherever I go.

Anyone who has shot photos for any length of time knows the name Kodak. They are an American Classic.

But, if you had asked me a few years ago what I thought of Kodak, I most likely would have shared fond memories of using their film and cameras growing up and that it was sad they hadn’t kept up with the times and were getting destroyed by the digital camera revolution. The only thing I thought they made were cheap, point and shoot cameras. Then one day I saw a tweet from @KodakCB. I don’t remember what it said or if I saw it through someone else’s stream, but I remember thinking it was cool to see another brand entering the still new world of social media.  They were not only answering people’s questions, but providing photography advice and linking to great photo content from all over the web.

Over the coming months, I got to know the woman behind the Twitter account and then at a conference I finally got to meet Jenny Cisney, Kodak’s Chief Blogger. Over time we’ve become friends and to me she is the face of Kodak.

Since then it has been fun to watch the constantly fresh thinking as Kodak has rolled out a steady stream of great products and this year at CES they added several more and Jenny was kind enough to walk me around the booth and show them all to me. Be sure to watch the video below as it showcases their newest video cameras, digital picture frames and their first waterproof still camera.

Brands of every sort could learn a lot from how Kodak approaches and works in social media. They know it is about the relationships first and the tools second.
