In celebration of our 100th Anniversary, we’re on a mission to honor home cooks across the country and collect the best heritage recipes from coast to coast. And what better place to look for these recipes than at the hotbed of home cooking – the State Fair?!

Fresh from the Wisconsin State Fair – home of fried cheese on a stick and giant cream-puffs – 31 participants battled it out in the “Kenmore Family Favorite Fruit Pies” recipe competition. Local restaurateur, TV host and guest judge, Chef Michael Feker, Kenmore Executive Chef Kari Karch, and veteran State Fair judge Kristy Williams tasted and judged genuine generational pie recipes from “Mile High Fourth of July Pie” to “Put the Lime in a Coconut Packer Spirit Pie.” The first place blue ribbon and $8,000+ in prizes was awarded to Jeffery Doyle of Stoughton, Wisc. for his recipe tribute to his grandma with “Grandmother Lucy’s Raspberry Lattice Pie.

    

We kicked off the summer in the Buckeye State at the Ohio State Fair where the competition was on fire at the “Kenmore Greatest Generations of Grilling Cook-Off.” With 25 participants, local chef Kent Rigsby, Kari Karch and Commissioner Sherrilyn VanTassel tasted and judged unique heritage-inspired recipes from pizza on a stick, to sliders on a stick, and bacon-wrapped tacos on a stick. The blue ribbon and grand prize was awarded to grill master, Camille Warren of Hilliard, Ohio for her locally inspired “Pork Chops and Applesauce on a stick.

  

Next up, we are heading to the Iowa State Fair to judge the “Kenmore Honored Harvest Time” recipes competition, honoring local produce in the Hawkeye State. Stay tuned to find out who takes home the grand prize!
