Holiday Serving: Give Your Time, Talents

Time to Give Back

Giving back during the holidays is as simple as doing what I love most: cooking. Here’s how each year I share my talents in the community to help those less fortunate.

Many ways to give

Some of my favorite memories involve charity work. Food is a wonderful way to give back, and it’s simple to help deliver meals or organize a fundraising cooking party.

Each season, I work with the Salvation Army to deliver meals to those who are spending the holidays alone or cannot afford a holiday dinner. My family and I feel blessed to bring the holiday spirit to those who need it most.

If cooking isn’t your thing, there are still plenty of other ways to get involved. For example, my family participated in a church “toy sort” last season, sorting and packing thousands of toys by gender and age for delivery to families in need.

So many other wonderful charities can use an extra hand. Here are a few of my favorites.

National food charities

Action Against Hunger
Feeding America

Charities in your community

Meals on Wheels
United Way
Holiday Project
Volunteer Match

Other organizations

Make-A-Wish Foundation
Humane Society of America
Cancer.org
Kiva.org
The Women’s Initiative

How do you give back? Is it cooking a homemade meal, delivering treats to families in need or finding unique ways to raise money for your favorite charity?
