The dog isn’t the only one entertained, though I’m fascinated for a different reason.

Sure, it’s pretty cool to watch the water slosh back and forth while the washer’s drum takes your clothes on a home appliance version of the Tilt-a-Whirl. But what really baffles me is this:

Why didn’t anyone think of this before?

Seriously! The new Smart Motion™ washer is such a simple concept – different motions for different purposes. For purposes of illustration, let’s say I’m living in the 1920s. Not only would I get to roll around in a Model T, but I’d do my laundry by hand. I’d use one motion to get stains out, another to prevent damage to delicate fabrics, and another one entirely to get the assorted unpleasant odors out of my shirts. So why wouldn’t a washing machine – supposedly the most effective way to get your clothes clean – take care of your clothes in the same way?

Now instead of hand washing delicates, you can plop down beside your dog (or cat – we’re not picky) and watch the machine get its slosh on. In the 1950s, we were promised that this new age of machines would lead to a life of leisure, with whiter whites and brighter brights. Well, welcome to the future. It’s finally here.

Some might call it genius. We just think it’s the way things ought to be.
