Watermelon Basil Fizz Drink

Summer brings us such an abundance of fruits and vegetables. Taking what’s best of the season and creating great recipes with them, not only creates great meals, but also memories of the amazing Summer that your kids will remember for years to come.

One of my fondest memories of summertime is eating a ripe and juicy watermelon. So ripe, that the juices are dripping down your chin and arms!!

This recipe for Watermelon Basil Fizz Drink takes deliciously ripe watermelon, throwing in some fresh basil leaves and a splash of simple syrup. Top is off with club soda, and you’ve got a fresh and all natural alternative to soda that I promise your kids will enjoy!

Also perfect as a brunch cocktail, simply add a splash of vodka and voila… you’ve got yourself an adult version! Give it a whirl and don’t be afraid to use your favorite summer fruits and combinations like Grilled Pineapple and Ginger, Mint and Cantaloupe, White Peaches and Lavender. The sky’s the limit!

Simple Syrup

Ingredients

½ cup of granulated sugar

½ cup of water

Instructions

Slowly bring the sugar and water to a simmer and stir until all the sugar has dissolved.

Let cool and store in a tightly sealed container. Store in the refrigerator and use within one week.

Watermelon Fizz Drink

Ingredients

5 cups of chopped seedless watermelon

4–5 fresh Basil leaves (no stems)

¼ cup of simple syrup

½ liter of club soda

Instructions

Blend the watermelon, basil and simple syrup together until smooth.

Pour the mixture in a pitcher and top with club soda.

Taste for sweetness. Serve over ice.
