- 12 fresh black mission figs
- 1/2 cup honey
- 4 cardamom pods, cracked open
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 peel of 1 lemon
Prepare the figs by cutting an ""X"" on the bottoms. Combine the rest of the ingredients in a saut pan and bring to a boil. Once the syrup has come to a boil, lower the heat slightly and add the figs. Baste the figs with the hot syrup until warmed through and the syrup has reduced to a light amber color. Place the figs on a plate and discard the lemon peels and the cardamom. Pour some of the syrup over the figs and serve with vanilla ice cream of lashings of whipped cream.
