1.) Melt butter in large skillet (cast iron works great) on medium-low heat. Add onions and salt and cook, stirring occasionally. 2.) Getting onions to that caramelized stage takes a while, usually 45 minutes, but be patient because it's worth it. This recipe isn't very demanding, making it a perfect way to multitask while cooking other dishes. Stir and watch occasionally to keep the onions from burning and becoming bitter. 3.) Add the caramelized onions to your main dish and enjoy that sweet flavor.
