How to Clean Your Vacuum
You ask your guests to take off their shoes when they enter your home. You go after dirt in every room. You’ve even mastered cleaning off the dust from your ceiling fan. You go to a lot of trouble to make sure your floors and home are clean, what about the machine that helps keep them in tip-top shape?
Step 1: Empty either your canister or dispose of and replace the vacuum cleaner bag. Do this preferably outside or in the garage to avoid further messes.
Step 2: Take apart what you can, so you can make sure everything is cleaned properly. Don’t remove the wheels, but wash them off with a wet cloth to avoiding any streaks while in use.
Step 3: Clean the filter and rinse the canister with water to remove any odors from the exhaust. Make sure the filter and canister are completely dry before you put them back in the bare floor cleaner so you can avoid mold growth.
Step 4: Using a pair of scissors, carefully cut away any hair, string or other items that are tangled up in the beater bar. You can also use the vacuum hose attachments and vacuum crevice tool to suction up leftover dirt from the bristles.
Step 5: Pour some rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and clean the bottom of the vacuum cleaner to disinfect from previous uses. You never know what kind of germs your cleaner could be tracking all over the house!
Step 6: Once you have every individual piece cleaned and put back together, wipe down the entire vacuum cleaner with a damp cloth.
