ingredients
- 8 cup apple cider
- 1-1/2 cup brandy
- 2 tablespoons dried orange peel
- 1-1/2 tablespoons whole allspice
- 6 cinnamon sticks
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1 hearty apple, (Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith) roughly chopped
- extra brown sugar or sugar in the raw, (for rimming the glasses)
- small cinnamon stick, (to garnish each glass)
directions
Step 1: Mix the liquids
Add the apple cider and brandy to the slow-cooker and turn on medium.
Step 2: Prepare the apple
Roughly chop the apple into bite-sized pieces and add to the slow-cooker. The apple bits should float on top.
Step 3: Mix the rest of the ingredients into the slow-cooker and cover
Add the cinnamon sticks, dried orange peel, allspice, raisins and brown sugar to the slow-cooker and stir well to dissolve the sugar. Seal the slow-cooker with the lid and allow to cook on medium heat for 2 hours.
Step 4: Serve and garnish
Ladle cider into sugar-rimmed glasses or mugs and garnish with a small cinnamon stick. If you aren't going to serve right away or have leftover cider, you can store it in the refrigerator and reheat later. Note: This recipe can be made vegan, but not all brandy is vegan so you should check the label.
